Life Sciences, Inc.
Welcome to Life Sciences, Inc.
Life Sciences, Inc. is a technology-based company. We are primarily a business-to-business company generating growth through the success of our business partners. Our primary activities include:
- Manufacture of nucleic acid enzymes and related biochemicals
- Development of assay system technologies
- Distribution of related instruments and reagents
Life Sciences is a large scale producer of AMV Reverse Transcriptase and other enzymes used in isothermal amplification-based diagnostic test systems. The company has active projects in the areas of nucleic acid sequence-based amplification (NASBA), dye-doped nanoparticles as beacons and microfluidics for cell separation.
Life Sciences also distributes biotechnology instruments and reagents manufactured by Bioer Technology Co., Ltd. Perhaps the most significant of these products is Gene-Lab, a prefabricated nucleic acid amplification laboratory for analysis by PCR and other nucleic acid amplification technologies.
History
Life Sciences was established in 1963 as a producer of germ-free animals for medical research. The company provided animals, avian myeloblastosis virus and research services in molecular virology to NIH in the period from 1963 to 1986.
During the 1980s, LSI produced natural interferons (alpha) used as experimental therapeutics in cancer and other diseases.
Since 1986, Life Sciences has been the leading commercial producer of AMV reverse transcriptase. AMV RT has been supplied to producers of NASBA and RT-PCR systems since 1993. The company develops and markets NASBA research products under a world-wide license from bioMerieux.
In 2004, the company established a strategic relationship with Hangzhou Bioer Technology Co., Ltd., the largest manufacturer of PCR equipment in China.
The company maintains an active research program and most recently was awarded a NIH grant to focus on applications for dye-doped nanoparticles used as reporters in bioanalytical reactions, including immunoassay and nucleic acid hybridization.
The company’s intellectual property portfolio includes: 1. NASBA research materials 2. NASBA clinical systems (China) 3. Handheld fluorometer 4. Dye-doped nanoparticles (reporters) 5. Nanoparticle-doped thermoplastics (patent pending)
